INDIGENOUS WOMEN - Values from diversity - page 1

Indigenous women are part
of the more than 370 million
people known as Native or
Indigenous Peoples. They
live in 90 countries from all
regions; they speak 4,000 of
the 7,000 existing languages
and live their lives with
strong bonds to nature,
which they respect as the
supplier of their subsistence.
They have self-knowledge
and abilities to manage their
environment in the right way,
being essential to preserve
the wealth of cultural and
biological diversity of the
planet. As well as their
general Human Rights they
have been recognized specific
Individual and Collective
Rights.
This exposition is meant to show
the great variety of indigenous
women, their life-vision, values
they provide to society and their
contribution to community
development and humanity
as a whole. Also to show their
concerns, how they confront
them, and what their actual
challenges are.
This exposition is a collective
construction made by indigenous
women and their organizations
with the collaboration of
WATU Foundation. It also
has the valuable support of
the International Indigenous
Women’s Forum, IIWF.
